Keep reading Northerners talking about Dallas shutting down after “2 inches of snow.” Well, it’s not the snow that’s the problem. Right now it’s 18 degrees F and there is about 1.5 inches of smooth-as-glass ice over most of the roads at least here in East Dallas. I braved the dangerous roads — and even more dangerous and reckless drivers — to get some food and firewood last nite and I thought I was gonna have a heartattack. I approached a stop sign at about 15 mph and couldn’t stop. Ended up in the intersection. Thankfully no one else was around. I saw idiots speeding in pickup trucks thru stop signs — not even a California Roll, thank you. Impatient motorists risk their necks and your fender in order to whip around you despite the fact that the roads are usually just two narrow lines worn into the ice. Go in any other direction and you put yourself in a bad position…unfortunately you can’t be exactly sure just what position it’ll be! So here I am at home from work for a second cold day. Cabin fever kept at bay with the help of some homemade posole, a warm fire and a few bottles of Wal-Mart’s Lucky Duck wine — $3 a bottle. And it’s not bad.
