A lot of the self-congratulatory back slapping being practiced by the Dems in the wake of the Midterm elections seems a bit much by my standards. Sure they’re controlling the House and possibly the Senate — but only by the slimmest of margins. I guarantee an evacuation of all libs/progressives by 2008. All it will take will be one well-placed and timely “terrorist” attack on US soil…and the fat slobs that make up 80% of this country will be soiling their Depends, crying out to Cheneyburton, “Save Us! Sure, we’ll give you another tax break for the rich…What? You want some more civil liberties? Take them…we have no use for them anyway.”
One interesting aspect of the elections was here in Texas. Although Bush Baby Rick Perry was a shoe-in for the Governorship from the beginning, a couple of Independent candidates made it pretty interesting. Kinky Friedman came in a disappointing yet not-unexpected fourth place behind Dem Chris Bell and fellow Independent Carolyn Strayhorn. Friedman took in 11% which seems a bit low considering how well he polled even earlier this week.
On a more local note here in Dallas, it’s nice to see that all 12 bond propositions passed — this represents the biggest public investment in the city’s history. Over $1.35 billion dollars will be spent on infrastructure including developing three parks on the sad ol’ Trinity River.
